Background for Laura Wilkes
I have been practicing psychotherapy in Boulder since 2004. My specialization during this time has been in the treatment of eating disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationships, body-image issues, personality concerns or disorders, addictions, obsessions/compulsions and other mental health concerns. Specifically my focus has been in working with adolescents and women. Before starting The Vine, I was both an independent contractor and an employee for La Luna Center and Boulder Therapy. There I was a lead individual therapist and regular group facilitator for the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for the treatment of eating disorders. These evenings consisted of Experiential, Process and Mindfulness groups. During this time I worked closely with treatment centers in Denver and in the Western United States, collaborating on behalf of clients who needed higher levels of care, or who were discharging and moving into the outpatient setting. Prior to that, I interned at the Eating Disorders Institute in Minneapolis, MN, working with Inpatient (IP) and Partial Hospitalization (PHP) patients, and a was volunteer counselor and educator at the West Suburban Teen Clinic in Excelsior, MN. Before going back for to get my Masters degree in Counseling Psychology, I was employed at an executive coaching company, where our team assisted people in making changes specific to their social skills in the professional work environment.
My own life has been a great teaching ground, as I, like all of us, have had numerous life-changing and growth-inducing experiences. I bring my personal path into our process together as well.
